Alpha Enrichment Foundation Scholarship

The Alpha Enrichment Foundation Scholarship award is open to Beta Iota Lambda Chapter mentees and affiliates who are preparing to pursue a bachelor degree, associate degree, technical diploma or certificate at a U.S. accredited college or university. Contingent upon the availability of funding, the scholarship is a one-time only award and will be paid during the first academic year of official enrollment in a four-year University or College or a Career/Vocational/Technical program.

The Scholarship will be paid in two equal installments. The first installment will be paid upon receipt of proof of enrollment at a four-year University/College or Career/Vocational/Technical program. The second installment will be paid upon receipt of an official transcript that shows satisfactory academic progress for the first semester of enrollment (completion of at least 12 credit hours with a minimum grade point average of 2.75).

SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS

In support of educational development and academic excellence, the Alpha Enrichment Foundation on behalf of the Beta Iota Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. offers the following types of scholarships:

*Installment of Book Scholarship shall be paid as a one-time, single semester payment.

APPLICATION PROCEDURES

Applicant must meet the following criteria for consideration of an Alpha Enrichment Foundation
Scholarship Award:

  1. Applicant must reside within East Baton Rouge Parish or neighboring parishes
    (within an approximate 40 mile radius of Baton Rouge, LA); and
  2. Must be a Male high school senior graduating in Spring 2022; and
  3. Projected completion of the current TOPS core curriculum before graduation from
    High School; and
  4. Plan to attend a four-year University or College OR a Career/Vocational/Technical
    program as a full-time student; and
  5. Minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and minimum; and
  6. Minimum ACT score of 20 (or equivalent on SAT) if attending four-year University/
    College OR minimum ACT score of 17 (or equivalent on SAT) if attending
    Career/Vocational/Technical program.

The following documents MUST be attached to and submitted in conjunction with the completed
application:

  1. Official High School Transcript. The high school transcript must include the (1)
    seven semesters of your high school matriculation, (2) cite the cumulative grade point
    average, and (3) be in an envelope sealed and signed by a school official.
  2. Test Scores. A copy of your SAT or ACT scores sent directly from your high school
    in an envelope sealed and signed by a school official.
  3. School Recommendation. One typed, signed, and dated current 2021/2022 letter of
    recommendation from a school official (i.e. principal, teacher/instructor, counselor,
    advisor, etc.) on the school’s official letter head. The recommendation should include
    the length of time the recommender has known the applicant and in what capacity; and
    highlight the applicant’s academic achievements, personal characteristics and
    leadership ability/skills.
  4. Community Service Recommendation. One typed, signed, and dated current
    2021/2022 letter of recommendation from a community service official or authorized
    representative of an organization verifying applicant’s current community service
    involvement. The letter must be on the organization’s official letterhead. The
    recommendation should include the length of time the recommender has known the
    applicant and in what capacity; and demonstrate active involvement to benefit the
    organization and/or community
  5. Essay. Typed one page essay providing (1) biographical sketch that includes
    extracurricular and leadership activities, (2) applicants’ educational goals and
    ambitions, and (3) statement on why the candidate believes he should be awarded an
    Alpha Enrichment Foundation Scholarship.
  6. Color Photograph. Recent portrait (wallet size senior picture/headshot). No proofs or personality shots. Applicant’s name should be printed on the back of the photo.
SCHOLARSHIP SELECTION AND CRITERIA

ALPHA ENRICHEMNT FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP: Provides a financial award to
students who seek to advance their education by enrolling in an accredited four-year
University/College. Students applying for the Alpha Enrichment Foundation Scholarship must
meet the following criteria:

  • Reside within East Baton Rouge Parish or neighboring parishes;
  • Be a 2022 high school graduate with a grade point average of 3.0 or above;
  • Be a high school senior with a minimum ACT score of 20 (or equivalent on SAT);
  • Be able to demonstrate community or extracurricular involvement; and
  • Be accepted by or planning to attend an accredited four-year University/College as a fulltime student beginning in the fall of 2022

CAREER/VOCATIONAL/TECHNICAL SCHOLARSHIP: Provides a financial award to students who seek to advance their education by participating in a vocational or technical program.
These programs traditionally focus on specific vocation skills needed for certain occupations.
Students applying for the Career/Vocational/Technical Scholarship must meet the following
criteria:

  • Reside within East Baton Rouge Parish or neighboring parishes;
  • Be a 2022 high school graduate with a grade point average of 3.0 or above;
  • Be a high school senior with a minimum ACT score of 17 (or equivalent on SAT);
  • Be able to demonstrate community or extracurricular involvement; and
  • Be accepted by or planning to attend a Career/Vocational/Technical program as a full-time
    student beginning in the fall of 2022

BOOK SCHOLARSHIP: The Book Scholarship provides a financial award for students to purchase textbooks. The Book Scholarship is available to high school students who meet the
following criteria:

  • Reside within East Baton Rouge Parish or neighboring parishes;
  • Be a 2022 high school graduate with a grade point average of 3.0 or above;
  • Be a high school senior with a minimum ACT score of 17 (or equivalent on SAT);
  • Be able to demonstrate community or extracurricular involvement; and
  • Be accepted by or planning to attend an accredited four-year University/College or
    Career/Vocational/Technical program as a full-time student beginning in the fall of 2022

OR

  • Reside within East Baton Rouge Parish or neighboring parishes;
  • Be a 2022 high school graduate with qualifying minimum ACT score (or SAT equivalent);
  • Be able to demonstrate community or extracurricular involvement; and
  • Be able to demonstrate community or extracurricular involvement; and
  • Be accepted by or planning to attend an accredited four-year University/College or
    Career/Vocational/Technical program as a full-time student beginning in the fall of 2022

FOR OUR FUTURE AWARD

In addition to applying for the Alpha Enrichment Foundation Scholarship, applicants seeking to enroll into an education institution within the University of Louisiana System may also apply and receive consideration for the “For Our Future Award.” The Award will provide up to a Maximum of $5,000 per academic year for applicants who have a demonstrated and documented need. Please note that this award is separate from the Alpha Enrichment Foundation Scholarship
award, therefore, applicants must apply separately. Further, any applicant who qualifies for
and receives the For Our Future Award will not be eligible to receive the Alpha Enrichment
Foundation Scholarship award.

NOTICE OF AWARD DECISION

All applicants will be notified of the Scholarship Committee’s decision via email. Applications
will be evaluated by Friday, May 13, 2022. Scholarship Recipients and their families will also be
notified of and invited to the Alpha Enrichment Foundation Annual Juneteenth Celebration to receive their respective scholarship award on Saturday, June 18, 2022.
